About Project

The BFI teams up with leading audiovisual artists/producers Addictive TV with new-media curators Cinefeel, to present Optronica. Merging the elements of film and music festival, Optronica celebrates and explores the growing convergence of music and moving image with a programme of live performances, screenings, illustrated talks and workshops, club nights and interactive installations.

Inaugurated in 2005, Optronica showcased new
works from both established and emerging international artists. For the first time the BFI IMAX was used as a spectacular platform for live audiovisual performances, making use of the UK's biggest cinema screen and 12,000 watts of digital surround sound. Electronic pioneers Plaid & Bob Jaroc, former Kraftwerk star Karl Bartos and DJ Spooky performed exclusive premieres to sell-out crowds. The NFT premiered a range of shows
including an abstract audiovisual journey with Canadian duo Skoltz_Kolgen and an emotive, virtuoso performance from Japanese pianist and visuals artist Takagi Masakatsu.

In March 2007, the festival will be based at the BFI's newly developed BFI Southbank. A rejuvenated and expanded NFT, the venue will be a 21st century home for the moving image.
